Area of Expertise
Prof. Dominic. A. Hegarty (Clinical Director at Mater Private Network, Cork and Pain Relief Ireland) is an international leader and expert in pain management and President of the World Institute of Pain (2023-2025).
He has been an expert witness since 2008 and his instructions are broadly divided as claimant (80%), defendant (20%). He provides reports for both medical negligence and personal injury claims.

Prof. Hegarty is prepared to meet to discuss the details of his report in advance with Senior Council in order to clarify any concerns before proceedings.
Where a court attendance or pre-proceeding consultations are required solicitors are advised to contact the office directly well in advance to make the appropriate arrangements.

Our mission is to provide a comprehensive evidence based opinion to ensure the court can evaluate the impact chronic pain is having on the individuals quality of life.
Professor Hegarty founded “PERITO” Expert Medical Legal Consultants in 2016 due to growing demand for his opinion in many high profile pain cases. Since then, the company has grown into established virtual chambers of specialist medicolegal experts.
The damages we have achieved for our clients have ranged from multi-million euro awards to modest awards. While no compensation can remove pain or the impact pain has on an individual and their family and friends it can make life somewhat easier for those affected.
PERITO will always work to ensure the impact of pain can be clearly presented to the court. We will ensure that the legal partners involved have a clear understanding of the long-term impact chronic pain will have on their clients quality of life and the subsequent financial implications.
